My cousin was pregnant and was under the care of a gynaecologist in the local Government Hospital. She did not get labour pains, even after her pregnancy had run its full course, so the doctor suggested a caesarean operation. She was admitted to the hospital one day before the scheduled day of the operation and prepared for the operation. A baby girl was born and everyone was happy. A week after the operation she had a low fever. On consulting the doctor, he prescribed some antibiotics.

The fever subsided for a while and soon she again started getting fever. He again gave a course of antibiotics. When she did not get any relief after a month, we consulted another doctor and an ultrasound showed that a napkin had been left inside the abdomen. The doctor advised immediate surgery as the infection had spread. My cousin died on the operation table. She lost her life due to sheer hospital negligence and inadequate care during the cesarean operation. We sued the hospital for medical negligence, but my cousin was not going to come back.
